Two of Two of Australia's finest comic actors have joined forces to bring Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's classic sketches to life at the Comedy Theatre this Melbourne Comedy Festival.
Irreverent, wickedly satirical and totally hilarious - Peter Cook and Dudley Moore raised the bar and set the stage for generations of comedians to come. Pete and Dud took their simple revue style comedy to sell out seasons on the West End and Broadway, relying on their brilliant writing and inspired performances.
This is in many ways a labour of love for Shaun Micallef, a lifelong Cook and Moore devotee, who selected and edited the scripts of many of Cook and Moore's shows to create Good Evening, borrowing the title of their Broadway debut . Cook and Moore last performed in Sydney in 1972 ahead of that Broadway debut presenting their revue Behind The Fridge at the Metro Theatre in Kings Cross.
Shaun, currently the host of Network Tens Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation said;
"I grew up listening to Peter Cook and Dudley Moore LPs. I knew them by heart. I owe them both a great debt and this revival of Good Evening, which I've been wanting to do for over twenty years, is my small but sincere thank you to two of the greats."
Stephen Curry, star of Australian films The Castle and The King, as well as the new comedy series, 30 Seconds, said:
"I am so honoured to be presenting the works of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore; two of the all-time greats of comedy. I've never heard of Shaun Micallef, but I'm sure he'll be fine too."
Good Evening includes arguably the pair's most popular and influential sketches such as One Leg Too Few, The Great Train Robbery and The Frog and Peach.
Shaun and Stephen will be playing theses classic sketches for laughs - this is not a tribute or impersonation show - the raw material is simply too good.
